About The Studio

The opportunity to be a part of a student's musical journey is a joy and privilege. I am passionate about providing a well-rounded music education including music theory, music history, aural training, and sight reading so my students can develop a strong musical foundation. Emphasis is placed on learning scales, music terminology, and learning classical piano technique.  Ultimately, I want each of my students to leave the studio with enough skills that they may enjoy a lifetime of making music on their own and with others.

Primo Piano is an in-home music studio located in the River Oaks neighborhood in Carver, MN. The studio offers lessons for both beginner and intermediate students. â€‹Teaching takes place primarily on a Kawai grand piano with exposure to several types of digital pianos. Students start their studies in the Faber Piano Adventures method books and supplement with MMTA materials and standard repertoire from an extensive curated music library.

About the Teacher

0FD3D8C1-1DE5-4E1C-A651-FD9C614E3362.jpeg

Hello! I'm Sara, owner and teacher at Primo Piano Studio.  I graduated with a B.A. from the University of Minnesota, Morris where I studied Communication Arts, Literature, and Piano Performance and received my license to teach grades 5-12. In addition to studying piano performance, I was a clarinetist in the University of Minnesota concert band for four years under the direction of Dr. John Ross and I sang as an alto in the university's concert choir under the direction of Kenneth Hodgson.

After graduating in 2007, I secured my first job as a high school English teacher and also had a small piano studio with 9 students.  Shortly after, I got married and moved to the Twin Cities area and my my career path took a turn.  I spent 3 years working as a college admissions representative and then 7 years working as an Account Manager before finally coming back to my original love, teaching music.

For the last eight years, I have found success and joy as a contracted online teacher and piano instructor. I am so happy to have returned to the education field and to be working with students again!   I especially enjoy working with beginner and intermediate piano students and helping to shape them into competent musicians.  Few things are as rewarding as the look of accomplishment on a student's face when he or she masters a piece after many hours of hard work!

I am very active in local, state and national music teacher associations.  I serve as an adjudicator for Minnesota Music Teacher Association events and Minnesota State High School League events. I won the MMTA Teacher Composition Contest with my original duet 'Temperamental March" in 2023 and my composition was performed in the 2023 Honors Concert. I currently serve on the Board of Directors for the Minnesota Music Teachers Association and I am President of the Minnesota River Valley Music Teachers Association.

When I'm not teaching, I enjoy listening to music, working in my garden, thrifting for home decor and books, and spending time with my husband and two boys (ages 11 and 14.) My favorite piano composers are Romantic era composers including Frederic Chopin and Felix Mendelssohn.
